Hyotan features a red barrel adorned with the gourd fruit, which is distinguished by its constricted center and inspired the pen’s design. Known for its numerous seeds, the gourd fruit is believed to symbolize prosperity. In Japan, it gained prominence through the horse seal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the general credited with first uniting the country.
