Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was one of the great post-Impressionist painters. After moving to the town of Arles in 1888, he began experimenting with still life pieces, which he called “colour studies.” We are honoured to partner with the Barnes Foundation to bring one of Van Gogh’s finest still life artworks to our collection.
Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s *Still Life (Nature morte)*, painted in Arles in 1888, this design celebrates the artist’s expressive use of colour and bold brushwork. During his time in southern France, Van Gogh created vibrant “colour studies,” arranging flowers and everyday objects to explore striking new colour relationships. The artwork featured on this cover showcases a blue majolica vase filled with vivid blue and yellow flowers alongside a white teacup, reflecting the renewed energy and beauty he found in nature. Created in partnership with the Barnes Foundation, this journal brings one of Van Gogh’s remarkable still-life works into everyday life, complemented by durable Smyth sewn binding, an elastic closure, a memento pouch and two satin ribbon markers.
