Iconic Features
Quality Paper

Hobonichi planners feature the crowd-favourite 52gsm Tomoe River Paper. Lightweight yet durable, this specialized paper halves the thickness of a typical planner, making even one-page-per-day planners compact and portable.
Tomoe River paper is known to be fountain pen friendly and offers a smooth writing experience. It handles ink beautifully while expressing shading, sheening, shimmering, and haloing properties without feathering or bleed-through.
Planner Layouts

Depending on the planner chosen, the layout will differ. Here is a list of possible layouts included:
-
Daily (one page per day) - for daily tasks, plans, diary entries, or daily sketches
-
Weekly (vertical or horizontal layout) - for weekly planning, tasks or habit tracking, anything that will happen within the week
-
Monthly - for short-medium term planning, events, and appointments which need to be marked down in specific months and future dates
- Yearly - for annual habit tracking, birthdays, appointments and deadlines that are farther out into the future
To suit the needs of different users, Hobonichi offers a range of layout combinations. The Original, Cousin, HON and AVEC planners are all great options for daily planning and writing, while the Cousin and Weeks planners are for those who need weekly planning. The Original and Weeks planners are smaller and suitable for those always on-the-go or don't need a lot of space for writing. Finally, people who don't need weekly planning at all would find the Original planner a great option. See the table at the end of this blog for a summarized comparison!
Planner Covers & Accessories

One of the most exciting things everyone looks forward to every Hobonichi season is the wide range of new cover designs and accessories that are released. Beloved cartoon characters and unique art from stylistic artists are featured in new designs, and you’ll find everything from new planner covers to pencil boards, stickers and decorative tape, offering endless ways to personalize your planner!
Planner Guide
Here's an overview of the Hobonichi planners that we will be carrying on our website and in store.
A6 Original
Developed in 2002, the Original A6 is Hobonichi's first ever design! Both lightweight and portable, it is great for travel or on-the-go as you move about throughout your day. This planner is preferred by people who don't plan a week at a time. The Original A6 contains the following layouts:
- One page per day
- Monthly calendars
-
Yearly overview
The A6 Original Book is compatible with Hobonichi's A6 Techo covers.
A5 Cousin
The Cousin was created with the same format as the Original A6 but considered people who need some extra space. It is heavier and larger, but still easy to carry and its A5 size is especially great for people who enjoy sketching or long-form journaling. This planner contains the following layouts:
- One page per day
- Vertical weekly spreads
- Monthly calendars
- Yearly overview
The Cousin is compatible with Hobonichi's A5 Techo covers.
Weeks
Skip the bulk and slim down with the Weeks! Made with portability and practicality in mind, this planner is slim, compact, and will fit in most bags (or even a big pocket!) for those who are constantly on-the-go.
The Weeks features a horizontal weekly layout which is split into two sides: the left side divided evenly for all seven days of the week, while the right side is left undivided to allow for flexibility. You can use this right side for notes, habit tracking, shopping lists, or weekly goals, and for artists, it can be the perfect space for art of the week! The Weeks planner contains the following layouts:
- Horizontal weekly spreads
- Monthly calendars
- Yearly overview
This year, we will be carrying all available designs of the Weeks. Yes, that's a ton of options! They're cute as is, but if you need it, it is compatible with the Weeks Covers.
Weeks MEGA
Sometimes you just have so many ideas and run out of space to write things down. The Weeks MEGA is here to back you up with plenty of extra pages for those especially creative or busy days. This planner has the same layouts as the Weeks, with a lot more empty pages at the back.
The Weeks MEGA is compatible with the Weeks Covers.
HON
The HON is the fancier version of an A6 Original or A5 Cousin in that it has a hardcover design instead of the standard yellow softcover. No need to purchase a planner cover separately as the cover is already cutely designed! The only downside of a HON is that the cover is not removable and so it's not possible to be reused for a future year.
This hardcover planner is available in the A6 HON (A6 Original format) or A5 HON (Cousin format). This series is compatible with Hobonichi's clear cover for HON.
AVEC

If you like to keep receipts, decorative stickers and other memory keeping accessories in your planner, your know your book will bulk up over the course of the year. A great solution to slim down is to split the year up into two books! That's where the Hobonichi AVEC comes in. You can start a fresh book mid-year without carrying with you the bulk and weight built up from the first half of the year.
The AVEC is available in the A6 Original format and the A5 Cousin format. This series is compatible with Hobonichi's A6 and A5 (respectively) Techo covers.
5-Year Techo
Just gave birth to a baby or a big idea? This 5-Year Techo will grow up together with your human or idea baby. Each year you continue to use this book will reward you with a growing number of nostalgic memories and achievements you've made along the way.

The 5-Year Techo allows you to keep 5 years of memories in a single notebook. It has a two-page-per-day layout, with five years of a single day divided evenly on the left page, and an empty side on the right to allow freedom for anything you like, such as multi-year tracking or for memorable photos and receipts to keep forever. This planner is perfect for reliving "today" of the past.
For 2027, we have a variety of covers to choose from:
- Regular cover
- Red Leather cover
- Hiroko Kubota: The Sea's Dream at Dawn
- Moomin: Written Memories (as pictured above)
- Iyo Okumi (as a gift set)
