Since its inception in 1915, Carand’Ache has been producing quality writing and drawing instruments in its Geneva-based workshops. The company is committed to using the finest quality materials, with special attention paid to perfecting writing flow, innovating drawing methods, and creative designs.

Carand’Ache comes from the word “karandash” - a Russian term for “pencil” which contains the Turkish root “kara tash” or black stone – hence the origins of graphite.

Graphite was a natural material found in the mountains of Switzerland and gave rise to the first Swiss pencil factory set up in Geneva in 1915. Nine years later, founder Arnold Schweitzer named the company Caran d’Ache after the famous Russian illustrator and caricaturist Emmanuel Poire who went by the pseudonym Caran d’Ache.

Explore our collection of Carand’Ache writing instruments beginning with the 849 Carand’Ache Brut Rose Ballpoint pen - the paragon of elegance and femininity.
